Ector, Texas -- Ector head tennis coach Terry Johnson has seen his share of success during the 25 years he has directed the program, including eight student-athletes who advanced to the UIL State Tennis Meet, but he came close to matching that total in 2019 alone.

After the girls and boys both won district for the 11th consecutive year and followed up with a strong showing in the regional meet, the Ector Eagles will be sending seven tennis players to the state meet this year.

In the regional meet, JB Johnson/Nathan Essary placed 1st in boys doubles. Last year as sophomores they also advanced as the 2nd place finishers and as freshman they finished in 3rd place and were the alternates for the state tournament.

Joey Grijalva/Destiny Whitburn placed second in regionals and advanced to state in mixed doubles and Kenny Nelms placed second in boys singles and also advanced to state.

Maricela Salazar and Lalito Grijalva both placed 3rd in girls and boys singles and are the alternates for state in their divisions.  Salazar also finished 3rd last year and was the alternate for state last year as well.  She finished 4th her freshman year.
