All Fannin County offices to be closed Dec. 5 for national day of mourning to honor former President George H.W. Bush

Fannin County, Texas -- All Fannin County offices will be closed Wednesday, December 5 in observance of a National Day of Mourning to honor former President George H.W. Bush.

The U.S. Post Office will close all post offices and all federal offices will also be closed.

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will also be closed.

The last time a national day of mourning was declared was January 2, 2007 on the day of Gerald Fordís funeral.

George Herbert Walker Bush (June 12, 1924 Ė November 30, 2018) served as the 41st President of the United States from 1989 to 1993.

Before being elected President, Bush served as the 43rd Vice President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. As a Republican, he had previously been a U.S. Representative, Ambassador, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

President George H.W. Bush was the last U.S. President to serve in combat.
