SHERMAN - Austin College Board of Trustees Chair David Corrigan and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D. will sign the AC/Tech Connect partnership 11:30 a.m. July 26 at the Austin College Idea Center Page Atrium at 900 N. Grand Ave. Sherman, Texas. The agreement between the two institutions will guarantee qualified Austin College students the opportunity to interview for admission into competitive graduate professional health sciences programs at TTUHSC. To be eligible for an admissions interview, Austin College students must complete their first two years at Austin College and meet other stated criteria.

“As more students choose private colleges to begin their higher education, it is important we expand the opportunities available to them after their graduation,” Mitchell said. “Austin College is home to some of the brightest students in Texas. These students are setting themselves up for success, and we look forward to their continued success and development as health care professionals at TTUHSC.”

This agreement will benefit students seeking a master’s-level or above degree in healthcare after receiving their bachelor’s degree from Austin College. Students will have the opportunity to interview with the TTUHSC Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Schools of Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Medicine. Students may choose from disciplines ranging from speech, language and hearing sciences, rehabilitation sciences, mental health, clinical laboratory sciences, nursing, medicine, pharmacy and public health.

“Austin College is proud to build upon its longstanding relationship with TTUHSC,” Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Special Initiatives and Dean of Faculty at Austin College Sheila Amin Gutiérrez de Piñeres, Ph.D., said. “As the health care profession seeks students who combine critical thinking with clinical training, the combination of an Austin College undergraduate degree and a TTUHSC graduate degree will serve both the state and the region well.”
